Dual Diagnosis for Students with ASD: Mental Health Challenges in Autism - Depression and Suicide
Presented by Ruth Aspy, Ph.D., Psychologist, Author and National Speaker
Individuals with Autism are at a higher risk for depression and suicide than are their neurotypical peers. Indeed, they are ten times more likely to die by suicide. A number of factors are related to the increased risks of suicide and depression. • Bullying • Difficulties with social communication • Camouflaging • Unmet needs for support. This presentation explores each of these factors. Interventions to decrease the risk of depression and suicide are discussed.
