FULL TITLE: FROM PRESENCE TO CONTRIBUTION: AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO TEACHING AAC AND LITERACY TO STUDENTS WITH COMPLEX NEEDS****************** Registration: 8:00am. Workshop: 8:30am to 3:30pm.****************** Who Should Attend: This session is designed for SLPs, OTs, Sp. Ed. Teachers, PTs and Social Workers***** What Is It? Our students with complex needs are often emerging in their language skills. Their most pressing educational need is usually in the area of communication. They are often learning about AAC while developing their receptive language and early literacy skills.
This workshop will focus on integrating AAC during the instructional routines of comprehensive literacy instruction: shared and independent reading, shared and independent writing, and phonological and alphabet awareness. However, the framework can be applied to any part of the school day, from academics to specials or non-instructional time. Teams will have ample opportunity to practice applying the framework to plan their own instruction. ********************** **********RESERVED FOR INF.
