When Helping isn't Helping: Prompt Awareness in AAC Instruction***Presented by Rachael Langley, MA, CCC-SLP, Reach Language, LLC An increasing number of students have access to AAC tools at home and within schools. The pace of technology development and availability has greatly outpaced the rate of education and training available to families, teachers, therapists, and others who support individuals with CCN. A greater discussion is needed regarding various approaches to teaching language via AAC. *** Learning Outcomes: *Participants will describe at least 5 different forms of prompting. *Participants will be able to describe the difference between partial verbal prompting versus modeling desired skills. *Participants will be able to identify at least one unintended outcome often associated with over-prompting.
