Presented by Kathy Oehler, SLP and Cheryl Boucher, OT "He just won't do his work!" This is a frequent complaint from both teachers and parents as they work with students who hate to write. When a student can't, or won't write, teachers have a hard time measuring the student's proficiency in ANY subject. Teachers worry about academic progress. Parents complain of homework battles. Behavior issues often result. All too often the language, organization, motor, and sensory demands of writing overwhelm our reluctant writers, especially those with Executive Function differences such as Learning Disability, Autism, and ADD. What looks like a refusal to do the work may actually be difficulty with the writing process. By working together, we can set our students up for success and help ALL kids become happy, successful writers.
