PRESENTED BY Chris Bugaj, SLP & Assistive Technology Specialist, Loudoun County School*** Remember doing a book report when you were a kid? Did your report result in something meaningful? Did that report educate, influence, or inspire others? Was it something so engaging and fun that you actually WANTED to work on it rather than doing it just because you had to? Experience a series of actual book study projects presented by a sixth grader (and his assistive technology trainer father) who used free and contemporary technologies to demonstrate his understanding of the narratives while simultaneously influencing others by sharing his work online. Tools that will be demonstrated include timeline and comic strip generators, online audio recorders, virtual avatars, digital poster boards, graphic organizers, multimedia slideshows, and literacy support tools (such as Read&Write for Windows, Read&Write for Google Chrome, & Read&Write for iPad) with text to speech and word prediction. The student will demonstrate how he used an iPad, Chromebook, and PC to complete the assignments and influence his teacher to provide more options for all students. Leave full of ideas for how to provide options for book studies and beyond!
