Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders benefit significantly from the use of visual strategies to augment their current systems of communication. Information that is presented visually is often more salient than auditory information to student with autism. In addition, unlike verbal language, visual strategies remain available and consistent, and can be referred to for as long as the child finds necessary in order to assist in the communication process.
