Registration: 8:00am. Workshop: 8:30am to 12:30pm. What Is It? If you work with a student who can’t communication at all, or at least not effectively, and need strategies and visuals that will support receptive and expressive communication, “then this is the workshop for you!” Come join us to learn strategies for implementing communication books with students who are low-verbal or non-verbal. We will also explore how to make communication books that are low-tech, efficient, and built on research and years of practical use in the field. You’ll discover a system that is based on pragmatics (or the way we use language socially) and organized in a systematic and dynamic way, so that students and communication partners can move logically through the process of expressing complete thoughts. You can produce an appropriate communication book that staff and the student will want to use throughout the day! It’s not just theory and ideas….it’s a PRACTICAL approach that can be put into practice tomorrow with the right tools and training! Video and case studies will be presented. A short lesson on creating books will be demonstrated. Reserved for KIC Regions: 7 & 8. (Contact for Registration Question:: Tricia Runkle 785-672-3125)
